Thanks to everyone who visited Kilkenny in 2009 and helped us to celebrate our 400th year of civic history. We had a great time and we hope you did too… the 400 celebrations are now over but the party hasn’t stopped in Kilkenny, the festival capital of Ireland.

Next up is the Kilkenny Arts Festival from 6th-15th August 2010

There are no plans to continue to update the Kilkenny 400 site at the moment, however it will remain online as a memento of our year of celebration. Click here to view a short video looking back over the 400th year.

Kilkenny 400 features on RTE Television’s Nationwide Programme

Kilkenny 400 Festival, celebrating 400 years of city status, featured on Nationwide on Monday evening, November 16th on RTE 1. A stunning tribute to the festival and Kilkenny, the RTE feature included interviews with Chairperson of Kilkenny 400, Paul Cuddihy, Tony Patterson of Kilkenny 400 committee and Mayor of Kilkenny, Malcolm Noonan. Featuring beautiful scenic images of the Marble City, the show also included the Butler rally on the Butler family’s return to its roots in Kilkenny, Butler gallery, the beautiful new gardens at Rothe House and the ‘5 to 6′ woman’s art project, showcasing the artistic designs of Kilkenny’s female community.

Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Castle

In honour of Kilkenny’s 400th anniversary, the Butler Gallery has organised an exhibition of
important paintings and works on paper celebrating the architecture
and landscape of Kilkenny City and County. This exhibition will include
significant works from the National Gallery of Ireland and private
collections along with beloved works by Paul Henry, Mildred Anne
Butler and E.J. Brennan from the Butler Gallery’s own collection
and a group of works by one of Kilkenny’s most celebrated artists,
Tony O’Malley.
